An Intriguing New Series Janet Having read C. Hope Clark's first series, which began with "Low Country Bribe," I was excited to see she has started a new series, also set in South Carolina. More specifically, on the small island called Edisto off the S.C. coast. Callie Jean Morgan is a detective running from the past -- a past that stole her husband and upended the world of her and her teenage son. Callie is adrift, like a dinghy broken loose from its mooring, but the island and its people begin to slowly work their magic on her, so that by the time the book ends, she is again showing signs of life and at least trying to get a handle on the drinking that's been plagui. A nice surprise Murder on Edisto by C. Hope Clark was a very nice surprise. I selected this novel because Edisto Beach is close to where my husband and I vacation and I thought it would be a fun read. This mystery wasn’t exactly fun, but it was engaging and suspenseful and well written.Callie Contrell Morgan grew up in South Carolina and summered in her family’s beach house on Edisto Beach. Morgan moved to Boston, became a cop, married and started a family. But when she goes after the Russian mob, they retaliate by killing her husband and burning down their house.
