This is a fascinating account of how "white people" were first exposed to the ancient rituals and culture of Easter Island. The methods used by the author to get information from the people and the amount of artifacts he removed is amazingvery different from methods used to study cultures today. But without them, much would have been lost. So who's to say Thor Heyerdal's methods were not good ones?. HaLeivi. I was looking for a very early edition that included a certain photo of a French woman, appearing as a vahine, standing alone, who worked as a digger when the men were on strike. It was probably in chapter 10 of Aku-Aku. I saw this in a mass market paperback in a book store many years ago, and have confirmation on its existence from the Kon-Tiki Museum. I have several editions, but none include this picture. That edition seems to have been removed from the market. I tried booksellers and book searches to no avail, and am still trying.
