It is short and to-the-point, which I appreciate in my current sta. "A fantasy adventure for modern readers" according to Michael Jaoui. Priest is a fantasy novel for the modern reader. Matthew Colville does away with the cumbersome, overly-ornate style that has burdened generations of fantasy writers in favor of straight-forward, tells-it-like-it-is prose that fits the protagonist and world to a T. The novel is equally an allegory about soldiers struggling with returning from war and a straight-forward fantasy adventure.Co. but Instead got a great read. Its a a good stand alone book Had started listening to Matt's podcast and as a lark thought I'd get the books to support his efforts. I assumed a throw away story, but Instead got a great read. Arriving at their secret priory, Heden discovers their commander is dead, the remaining knights paralyzed with despair. The Bishop sends the priest Heden into the wood, to find out why. They will not act, they will not tell him what happened, and with each hour the monstrous army gets closer to Ollghum Keep. Hundreds will die if the priest fails. When the knights start dying one by one, Heden must race to unravel the conspiracy of silence and save the knights from themselves so they can save the people they were sworn to guard.. But this time, the Green Order is nowhere to be found. Now, as before, a monstrous army marches on their small town. So they can go on being…normal people.”“What an awful way to live,” Sir Idris said. “So you do it for them. Heden shrugged. You murder the giant, so the farmers don’t have to. “It’s not so bad.”For centuries the people of Ollghum Keep relied on the knights of the Green Order to protect them from the horrors of the haunted wood

Short, brisk, with some tough guy dialog and a little humor. 350 pages and out. Just tough guys and fantasy action and the human heart in conflict with itself. And a little humor here and there.. No map, no wildly shifting points of view. I wanted something that showed characters behaving in what I considered a more human fashion, and I wanted something short, more like the books I came up with in the 1980s. From the AuthorI wanted to write a hard-boiled fantasy novel
