DESCRIPTION:
"As a standalone good story and a good read" according to geoff byrne. The plot and sub-plots are starting to get somewhat formulaic with this series of books. As a standalone good story and a good read, however there is a fair amount of similarity to the other books with pretty grisly and graphic serial killers, continuing undermining of Katie by her superiors, on-again off-again relationship with John, the single truncated sex scene per book, and the fairly poor longevity prospects of Katie's team.. Four Stars Great read.. "Martyrs, my friend, have to choose between being forgotten, mocked or used. As for being understood - never. - Albert Camus" according to Cheryl Stout. I've read author Masterton's horror fiction before over the years and appreciated it. I had never read any of his crime fiction before this book. Wow, I liked it better than his horror. He doesn't pull any punches. One thing that was difficult to get used to - this series takes place in Cork, Ireland and the regional language/slang was not easy for me to understand. But I kept reading and the dialect started making more sense to me and I ended up enjoying
"an effective crime novel." --Publishers Weekly, 12/7/2015
Katie Maguire suspects the family were victims of a blood feud between two of Cork's most violent gangs. Now their mutilated bodies have surfaced in a nearby peat bog, perfectly preserved right down to the smallest smashed fingernail. As she investigates, their bitter rivalry flares up once more—and this time it is Katie who is danger. Katie Maguire reopens a cold case in her gripping, gruesome fifth thriller Five years ago, a well-to-do family from northeast Cork disappeared without trace
