Shagging in the Carolinas is a history of dance, romance, and the New South. The early pioneers and iconoclasts of dancing brought about a cultural revolution, embodied today by the many societies, competitions, and innumerable entertainers and bands that continue the Beach Music tradition.. Venues such as the Coachman and IV, the Cellar, the Bushes, the Embers Clubs, and the Beach Club at Myrtle Beach are captured within these pages. Good pictures and captions, but not much text I've come to the conclusion that the Arcadia press just publishes picture books. That's okay, but in this case, since so little has been written about beach music, it would have been nice to have more real content. Still, it's a nice little book, with lots of pictures that give insight into the birth of a genre. A good effort.
